On August 16, 2011, it started with a high fever. We thought it was just a little flu…or, perhaps teething (as both our kids experienced fever spikes during those times). But, it was different. We knew something was wrong. Within 48 hours, our son, Paxton and at the time 10 months old, was fighting for his life with bacterial meningitis. After 17 days in the hospital on strong antibiotics, our son made it through and we were in full recovery mode!
We knew one of the side-effects with meningitis was hearing loss – or complete deafness. He had hearing upon arrival home so we assumed he was in the clear. However, after a few short months, we knew he just couldn’t hear as well as we thought he should. His hearing was tested through an ABR (auditory brainstem response) method. The results – no hearing.
The good news is that we had already been told about some amazing technology that brought hearing through cochlear implants. We were encouraged! Overwhelmed, too. As Wikipedia explains, “A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing.
On January 18th, 2012, Paxton had surgery to receive his cochlear implants at the University of Minnesota. On February 16th, they were activated! Thanks to this amazing technology, he can hear a drop of water!
We are so blessed and grateful for his ability to hear. It’s been a long road, but we know in faith that everything has occurred for a reason. Paxton’s speech is developing at rapid rates! Now, when he looks out his bedroom window (one of his favorite things to do) he can hear the construction vehicles loud and clear! Thank you Lord – to Him be all credit given.
Today’s wedding in New Town was truly awesome! We really enjoyed working with the amazing couple and their families. Here’s a sneak peek of the bride….

Our daughter loves posing for the camera especially when we have new backdrops, props or lighting to test out. We’re always striving to offer the latest and greatest and we’re pumped about some new backgrounds and floors for this year’s shoots (especially our senior sessions). Here’s one of those new solid colors! Most importantly, we cannot wait to continue to capture those “moments!”
And, we have some new on-location lighting we’re excited about, too! Cannot wait to use this to capture those “real moments” especially on wedding shoots!
